It is becuase of these annual tests that problems arise. The Zurn 975XL model backflow as pictureed is the most common unit used in this area. They range in size from 1/2" to 2". The most common size for residential homes is 3/4". Repair parts for this unit are always stocked on our repair trucks. This gives us the ability to service these units quickly. Backflow preventer assemblies have other components also required to meet local plumbing codes. In addition to the backflow preventer, saftey devices are also installed to the assemblies for protection. Freeze protection is required if the backflow preventer is exposed to the weather. The backflow would have to be covered completely so that it does not become frozen during freezing temperatures. Most units in our area are not covered and have a freeze protection device. Usually located on the outlet side of the backflow. Another device commonly used on backflow preventer assemblies is a Pressure Relief Valve. This device simply regulates the water pressure in your home from becoming too high. Both of these parts listed tend to fail pretty regularly, but are essintial to extending the life of your backflow preventer.
